Tennis Rules

Only members and their invited guests may use the courts. Players must wear non-marking proper tennis shoes and appropriate tennis attire. Shirts must be worn at all times.

GENERAL RULES

  • To wait for a particular court, a racquet should be hung on the racket hanging board. The player whose racquet is in the #1 position is entitled to the next available court with the player[s] of his choice (even if their racquets are not hanging). A player may not have a racquet hung if he/she is playing, waiting for the challenge court, using the ball machine, or is not in the vicinity of the courts. An unclaimed racquet in the #1 position may be removed from the board.
  • If the player whose racquet is in the #1 position is present, but not ready to take the court, the player whose racquet is in the next position may then take the court.   Play is limited to 2 sets of doubles, 1 set of singles, or 45 minutes of rallying. When reaching six all, a twelve-point tie-breaker must be played. If three players begin play, they are entitled to one set, or 45 minutes of rallying. Warm up is limited to 10 minutes.
  • Play is defined as starting when rallying begins, and the condition of the court (leaves, water, etc.) is not a consideration. No additional playing time is allowed for time spent rolling or sweeping the court.
  • Players may continue to play after completing a set (or sets), but they shall give up the court upon completion of the set in progress if players are waiting for their court.
  • A player may not practice alone if others are waiting for that court.
  • The Club Manager, Club Tennis Director, or a member of the Tennis Committee will resolve disputes.
