Tennis Rules (Revised 11/2010)
Court Use
Only Club members, club team members and properly registered guest may use the courts.
Court Attire
Players must wear proper tennis shoes with non-marking soles and appropriate tennis attire.
Shirts must be worn at all times
Guest Players
All guest must be immediately registered on the guest sign-up sheet (upper club house or front desk) by their hosts. The Guest Registration Fee is $5.00.
Failure to sign in a guest subjects the member to a penalty fine of $15.00 in addition to the $5.00 registration fee for the unregistered guest.
Marin Open and Flex League opponents will be considered guest of their SVSTC opponents.
A member can only "host" one (1) guest at a time.
Guest must be accompanied by their sponsoring member at all times.
Guest may only play tennis, as a guest, a maximum of two (2) times per month.
Guest are welcome the following times:
Monday through Friday 7am-9am
12pm-10pm
9am-12pm on a "Space Available" basis during the
summer months of June, July, and August.
Marin Open League matches are not eligible
for "space available" play.
Weekends Anytime
Non-members who play on a SVSTC team may play at all team play days, team clinics, and matches without being signed in by a member. If they play at any other time, they are subject to all of the normal guest rules, listed above, including the "twice per month maximum rule".
Junior Players
Junior players have the same rights to use the courts as senior adult members do. All junior players under the age of 12 must be supervised directly by an adult while they are on the courts.
Court Wait List & Court Sign In
Members must sign up on court wait list on the sign-up boards (by court #1 & #5).
Before starting play, all of the player's names and the exact time the court was entered must be entered on the board. If all of the players' names and their starting time are not entered on the board, the court must be relinquished to the next ready player signed up on the list.
No one can be currently playing on a court and be on a court waiting list at the same time.
If your name is on the wait list, you must be in the local vicinity and ready to commence play as soon as the court becomes available or your name will be removed from the wait list.
A single person cannot use or "save" the court if other players are ready to start. Their position on the waiting list will be suspended by the next set of ready players on the waiting list.
Advance Reservation of Court #4
Court #4 can be reserved for one (1)hour for recreational play or two (2) hours for Match Play by calling the club no more than 24 hours in advance of desired playing time.
Current court reservations will be posted at the court by Club staff
Failure to show up with a partner by 15 minutes past the reserved hour voids the reservation.
Available Times: Everyday from 1pm up to 7pm
Maximum Court Time
Maximum court time for singles play is one (1) hour.
The maximum court time for doubles play is one and a half (1 1/2) hours.
Maximum court time includes any "warm up" time taken.
If your allotted playing time is up, you must vacate the court if there are players on the wait list.
Exception: Members participating in Club approved leagues (Marin Open Tennis, USTA Flex League etc.) may go past maximum allowed court time to finish their match except:
- If they are playing on courts #1, #2 or #4 during Men's & Women's Weekend Priority Times (10am to 12pm on Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays).
- If they are playing on Courts #1, #2, #4 or #5 (if applicable) before Morning Team Practice priority times. Match play cannot extend past 9am on these courts (Monday through Friday)
Team Weekend Matches
All matches should be scheduled either for 12pm or 3pm.
Match players starting at 12pm or 3pm, may continue to play past normal playing time limits (1 hour for singles, 1 1/2 hours for doubles), as needed to finish their match play.
For matches starting at 12pm, if there is a following match scheduled for 3pm, a tie break must be played instead of a final third set.
Court Availability
Drop-In Courts Reserved for Men on Weekend Mornings
Men have priority on Courts #1, #2 from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, Sunday and Holiday mornings.
Women may play on these courts on a Space Available Basis but must relinquish any priority court to any men wishing to play on these courts during the reserved priority time.
Drop-In Courts Reserved for Women on Weekend Mornings
Women have priority on Court #4 from 10am to 12pm on Saturday, Sunday and Holiday mornings.
Men may play on this court on a Space Available Basis but must relinquish this court to any women wishing to use it during the reserved priority time.
Courts Reserved for Team Practice
Morning Team Practice: Women's team practice events have priority on Courts #1, #2, & #4 on Monday through Friday from 9am-12pm.
Evening Team Practice: Team practice events have priority on Courts #1, #2 & #3
Monday through Friday evenings from 7pm to 10pm
Team Matches that are scheduled during team practice times can extend court time past the reserved time until the match has been completed
Note: Any unusual reserved team practice courts is available for general play fifteen (15) minutes past the start of the reserved time. It cannot be reclaimed by the team later within the reserved time.
Courts Reserved for Tennis Pro Teaching
Court #3
Monday through Friday and all Holidays 8am to 6pm
Court #5
Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Weekends 8am to 9pm
Tuesday and Thursday 8am to 6:30pm
*During the dark winter afternoons, the pro may use one of the lit upper courts from 3pm until 6:30pm in lieu of usning Court #5.
Note: If a teaching court is not in use by both the pro and a student by 15 minutes past the start of the reserved hour or half hour, the court is available for general membership use until the next scheduled lesson.
Tennis Rule Disputes:
The Club Manager, Tennis Director, or any member of the Tennis Committee will resolve any disputes as they occur.
